Incunabulum 1479

Purchased from a jittery aging Nazi in Argentina 1960 for 1200 USD by one Dr. Eduardo Zimmermann. The Nazi used the proceeds in a failed bribe attempt to dodge Argentinian police. Local government officials were in dialogue with Israeli lawyers scouring South America for Holocaust criminals (including Joseph Mengle).

One of the first printings out of Hamburg was a single sheet translation of what is known as the "Skraelings Manuscript". This document is a Norse description circa 1000 AD of a wayward longship crew's encounter with Native Americans on an island Jon Johannesson (Nordaela, 1956) believes was Manhattan.

Manhattan was a neutral territory and wildlife refuge sacred to Native Americans in the area. Each tribe had an appointed time to kill a specific limit of birds during Fall and Spring migrations. It is disputed which season Olaf Estridsson's party arrived.

Enormous flocks of birds erupted from the island when a heavily armed Viking raiding party went ashore. The annoyed flock's departure drew the attention of nearby tribes who quickly assembled a flotila of sixty canoes to surround Estridsson's ship.

"They were small men. Their hair was ugly and they had big eyes. They remained there for a while then rowed close shaking staves."

The gold enlay of the document ends with a fragment describing successful attempts to use longship oars to tip approaching canoes. The knotwork is similar to that from a fishing village (Solarfjoll?) twenty three km NNW of Gardar, Greenland.
